POLICE are clamping down on under-age drinking in March as part of their anti-social behaviour patrols.

Those caught drinking under age will have their alcohol confiscated, their parents will be informed and inquiries made as to where the alcohol came from.

PCSOs Tina Potter and Carol Holloway were on anti-social behaviour patrols in the St John's Road area of the town when they spotted a group of youths with carrier bags, who then ran away towards March railway station.

The PCSOs began searching nearby gardens and found several carrier bags of alcohol including vodka and lager.

PCSO Potter said: "On this occasion we were able to confiscate a fairly large quantity of alcohol which had been carried by underage youths.

"I would remind shopkeepers that it is illegal to sell alcohol to underage teenagers. I would also ask members of the public that if they are approached by a teenager asking them to buy alcohol on their behalf, please consider how old the person asking is and do not buy alcohol for underage youths.

"Anyone caught buying alcohol for youths could be issued with an on-the-spot fine of up to £80.
