THOUSANDS of youngsters in Cambridgeshire and Norfolk are being taught in classes of 30 pupils or more - 10 years after Tony Blair promised they would be taught in smaller groups.
Latest figures published by the Department of Education and Skills, shows while there has been a year-on-year decrease, numbers in oversized classes are still significant.
There are 7,420 primary school pupils in Cambridgeshire and 8,818 in Norfolk, being taught in classes of more than 30. Last year the figure was 8,127 in Cambridgeshire and 9,779 in Norfolk.
In secondary schools there are 4,692 pupils in Cambridgeshire in classes of more than 30, and 3,203 in Norfolk.
