A surprise awaited former March Conservative Club secretary Cheryl Salisbury when she returned to sort out a few things with new secretary Sandra Ransome on Monday.

Club chairman Robin Howlett and members of the committee were there to thank her for the hard work she had put in over seven years and to present her with a cash gift.

Then social committee member Margaret Butwright stepped forward with a large bouquet. Cheryl said after the presentation she had been taken by surprise.

She started at the club working behind the bar although had helped out in the office. She took over as secretary seven years ago but felt it was time to move on.
