A biker is taking to the road for a 2,000 mile round trip to raise money for a national charity that takes injured veterans on motorbike holidays of their dreams.

Colin Minister will be riding his Triumph Tiger trike conversion from Friday Bridge to meet fellow bikers in Derby on April Fool’s Day, then up to John O’Groats in Scotland.

Once there, it’s a night’s stop over, then 837 miles down to Land’s End in Cornwall.

The grand tour will take a total of eight days.

Colin said: “I served in the army from 1967 to 1980. Did my stint in Northern Ireland and was also in Hong Kong and Germany. I’ve lost friends and seen men injured.

“I heard about this charity and wanted to get involved. I’ve done a run out with them before to visit Chelsea Pensioners and enjoyed being part of it so am now taking on something a bit more ambitious,” he said.

There are some stretches of beautiful scenery and I can’t wait to take to the road.”

There will be 27 riders taking part including Colin, who worked as a long distance continental lorry driver after leaving the forces.

He said: “I bought my Triumph four years ago but managed to fall off and break my ribs so on the advice of my family got it turned into a trike so I’m safer.”
