THE recently opened Isle of Ely College of Further Education and Horticultural Institute had some important visitors in September 1956.
Dennis Vosper MP, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Education, told this newspaper: "Further education, part-time or full-time, is so frightfully important.
"In the future, people may ask why the county council did not build a bigger college, instead of wondering whether it is really necessary."
His visit was part of a tour of schools throughout the Isle of Ely.
Before arriving at the college he had been to Wisbech High School, Wisbech Grammar School, St Augustine's, Clarkson, and Ramnoth Road Schools.
He also went to the Queen's School's new building site in Weasenahm Lane.
