NINE-year-old Jake Saunders loves baking cakes so much that he decided to hold a cake stall to raise money for Comic Relief.

With the help of his mum, sister and grandmother, Jake made all the cakes and sold them to children at Glebelands Primary School, in Chatteris.

And he raised £110.42 in the 15-minute morning break time after children gathered in large numbers with their 20 pences to buy a cake.

Jake's Mum Kirsty said: "I am just so chuffed to bits with him."

Jake, who lives in Chatteris, regularly bakes cakes at home and takes them into school to share with classmates.

He was watching his grandmother's DVD about Red Nose Day, when he decided to hold a cake stall.

Mrs Saunders: "He just got up, said he was going to do and did everything himself. He went to the headteacher and said he was going to do it, and he hung posters up around the school.

"But he has not slept all week because he was so hyperactive."

Jake sold the cakes, which included brownies, fairy cakes and cookies, in the break time with the help of classmates Emily Doyle and Kelly Ayres. The remaining cakes were sold after school by Mrs Saunders to raise more money by selling the cakes to parents and carers.

Jake's stall ran alongside the fundraising by the school, which held a day where children were invited to dress in clothes that were too big for them. Glebelands School also raised just over £200 with the children each donating 50p for the privilege of a 'Bigging It Up' non-uniform day.

Many of the staff also entered into the spirit of the day and the whole school was certainly buzzing!
