Demolition could begin next month of 80,000 square feet of warehouse and office space in March.
Permission to carry out the removal of Davern Workwear’s buildings in Elliott Road is now before Fenland Council.
Main Man Supplies of Birmingham are carrying out the works and say the demolition will also include a more recent addition of a reception area at the front of the building.
“The main building is quite dilapidated and requires removal of asbestos,” said a company official. “If left in situ it will attract many different types of vermin such as rats and seagulls.”
The company says Davern is being relocated to Foundry Way, March, and “is therefore retaining jobs for the local residents”
The Elliott Road site has already been approved for housing with 32 homes planned for the site of the existing factory and offices.
Demolition could take six weeks and will involve “high reach excavators with shear attachments particularly for steel structural elements”.
