I READ with interest both the article about the launch of Chatteris Community Cinema and also the article about the conversion of the old March Cinema The Hippodrome to a Wetherspoons pub.
Although I have no objection to another pub opening in March I feel sad that the people of March have lost their cinema. As is the case in Chatteris perhaps this is an opportunity for a community cinema in March?
There is nothing wrong with converting a cinema building such as the Hippodrome to another use, but the location of that building in my opinion is not good. It is situated on a busy crossroads with heavy town traffic, it’s a relatively large building so a lot of people are going to be in it and coming out of it, some drunk and no doubt spilling out onto the road.
