Over SixtiesIT was party time for the Over Sixties Club when they met at the Church Room. Those present enjoyed a Christmas meal. Before the meal, a tombola session was arranged and members sponsored the prizes. Each member received a Christmas gift, provided by the club. There was one birthday, Edith Pauley.Flower ClubDOREEN Lenton presided at the Flower Club's annual meeting at the Church Room. A successful past year was reviewed. The officers elected were: Chairman, Doreen Lenton; secretary, Joyce Perkins; treasurer, Phyllis Fox; draw and table sale, Elsie Lawrence. The programme for 2006 was planned and members will take part at the Manea gala and the Parish Church flower festival. It was agreed to increase subscriptions to £6.TombolaFRIENDS of Manea School benefited from £205 raised at a tombola in the village hall, organised by Donna Tweed. Caller was Billie King. Prize winners were Nigel Parish, Rose Savage, D Evans, Hayley Powell, Nigel Newman and Mrs Sullivan. Draw winners were Angeline Parish, Zena Cross, Nigel Parish, Lesley Kennedy, Steven Short, Donna Tweed, Mrs Green, Mrs Lilley, Val Church, Ann Head, Jean Walker, Mona Waters, Mrs Sullivan, Hayley Powell, Nigel Carter and Norma Cole.Carol serviceCAROLS at the annual service at the Parish Church were accompanied by Manea Silver Band and organist Mary Beeston.The band wore their new scarlet uniforms. Stephen Tooke conducted the service, welcoming the congregation in verse. Readers included Stephen Tooke, Rosemary Hankins, Daisy Peverett, Wendy Cole, Hilma Sears, Joyce Perkins and William Evans. Church wardens Rosemary Hankins and William Evans took the collection.TombolaHELPERS in the village hall were Janet Tweed, Margaret King, Lorna Marshall, Freda Waters, Mona Waters, Cynthia Cundell, Jean Walker, June Dawson, Maurice Short and Billie King (caller). Proceeds were for hall funds. Mince pies were served during the half-time interval. Prize winners were Evelyn Wells, Jordan Tweed, Sheriden Stevens, Aubrey Cole, Betty Stevenson and Margaret Whitehead. Draw winners were Freda Waters, Carol Grainger, Jean Walker, Janet Tweed, Mary Dunham, Pam Lilley, Rita Grainger, Nigel Carter, Jamie Lee Webb.Royal British LegionTHE annual meeting of Manea Royal British Legion, held at the Legion Club, was chaired by John Hammond.Officers elected were: President, A Peacock; chairman, J Hammond; vice-chairman, R Bath; secretary/membership secretary, R Hawkins; treasurer/standard bearer, E Tweed; poppy appeal organiser, Lesley Kennedy; committee, D Edwards, G Hawkins; welfare committee, J Hammond (chairman), R Bath (vice-chairman), G Hawkins (secretary), E Tweed (treasurer).At the annual meeting of the Royal British Legion Club, which followed the branch meeting, officers elected were: President, E Tweed; chairman, R Bath; vice-chairman, J Hammond; secretary, A Pickering; treasurer, D Edwards; committee, P Painter, G Hawkins, K Ridger.Silver BandTHE band presented its annual Christmas concert at the village hall. The junior band also performed. Soloists were Charlie Dowdeswell and Nicola Barnes. Mince pies and sherry was served.At the recent annual meeting, officers appointed were: Chairman, Andrew Salisbury; vice-chairman, Billie King; treasurer, Charlie Dowdeswell; secretary, Nicola Barnes.Methodist ChurchTHE annual carol service at the Methodist Church was conducted by the Rev Ann Bossingham.The St Andrew's choir, from Outwell, presented a programme of Christmas items. Refreshments were served after the service.
