70 acres of Fenland farmland and apple orchard was opened for the public to explore when Willock Farm opened its gates for an apple day.

About 100 people turned up to the orchard run by David Wheatley in Wisbech St Mary on Saturday, opened as part of the East of England Apples and Orchards Project.

Apple experts were on hand to identify the types of apples they had growing in their own gardens and Stamford Juice Company gave people the chance to buy and test drinks.

Visitors were taken in groups on a guided tour of the 22 acres of orchard by Mr Wheatley every hour, while apple cakes and a selection of apples from the orchard were sold.

There was also access to a 40-acre piece of land used for sheep, which included the chance for children to hand feed two lambs in a pen.

Mr Wheatley will also be part of Wisbech Apple day, taking place in the town on Saturday,

October 14.
