AN application to extend a cottage in Manea has been rejected by the Planning Inspectorate.

The applicant wanted to build a first-floor rear extension to Rose Cottage, at 19 High Street, but it was decided that the extension would have an adverse effect on the character and appearance of the cottage and the general street scene.

Fenland District Council, which rejected the application, leading to the appeal to the planning inspectorate, argued that the cottage was highly visible and an attractive feature in this historic part of the High Street, the proposed extension did not reflect the scale, style and character of the existing dwelling, due to its excessive bulk and it was out of keeping with the street scene.
