More than 35 firefighters from stations across the region tackled a large accidental field blaze in Cottenham yesterday.

Crews were called to the field fire on Twentypence Road at around 2.50pm on Tuesday, August 7.

They arrived to find the fire involved between 20 and 30 acres of crop and peat.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 2.57pm crews were called to a field fire on Twentypence Road in Cottenham

“More than 35 firefighters, including crews from Papworth, Ely, Cottenham, Gamlingay, Littleport, Chatteris and Huntingdon attended the incident.

“The fire was extinguished using hose reels and crews returned to their stations by 7.45pm.

“The cause of the fire was accidental.”
