A dog breeding business in Wimblington may be forced to close if permission is not granted.

The site, which is south-east of The Roost, Manea Road, Wimblington, was built without planning permission.

The applicant erected kennels and runs as part of a dog breeding business having been granted a licence. However he did not seek planning permission and therefore may be forced to shut the business.

In a letter to Fenland District Council, Ann Barnes, Cambridgeshire County Council’s principal planning officer, said: “Whilst this application relates to development which has already taken place it is still important to confirm that the dog breeding use will be compatible with the adjacent waste management use.”

She also states impacts on amenity issues should be considered, including disturbing the dogs at sensitive times which may affect the operation and future development of the Plasgran waste management site.

However, in a planning statement and flood risk assessment, the applicant’s agent, Peter Humphrey Associates Ltd, said that noise isn’t a problem because “there are few neighbouring residential properties to the site, with the nearest being approximately 250 metres away.

“We do not therefore believe that there will be any significant impact on residents of Manea Road or the surrounding area.”

It states that the nearest neighbour is the Plasgran site, which produces noise from forklift movements and general operations.

There are hedges and shrubs surrounding the site which will help to suppress any noise, it continues.

In terms of the unit’s design, the report states “the kennels and runs use materials which respect the character of the area and do not have any detrimental impact on the surroundings.”

The site is also said to benefit from Middle Level flood defences as it falls within flood zone free in accordance with the Environment Agency’s Flood Zone maps.

A decision is to be made by October 12.
