FENLAND District Council has agreed to sign up to the Nottingham Declaration on Climate Change.

The commitment includes working with central government to contribute to the UK climate change programme, the Kyoto protocol and the 2010 carbon dioxide reduction target, and, within the next two years, develop plans to address causes and impact of climate change.

Sole objector to the commitment, which also involves encouraging all sections of the community to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, was Councillor John West, who questioned the funding for the work involved and said: "If all we are going to do is have a carbon count, then it's going to be a very expensive carbon count.
