County councillors are to be challenged to tackle some of Cambridgeshire’s most deprived parts – which include March and Wisbech.
The ‘call to arms’ will be made next Tuesday by county council leader Steve Count who wants some specific actions.
The March councillor says Cambridgeshire continues to be a county of contrasts “with pockets of highly affluent areas with pockets of concentrated, multiple deprivation”.
In a motion to full council he says Wisbech has some of the most deprived areas of Cambridgeshire and parts of March and King’s Hedges area of Cambridge were next up.
His motion will call for all council committees to make alleviating deprivation “a high priority”.
Cllr Count says each service committee should have key performance indicators relating to improvements to these areas.
He also wants each committee to state what these indicators are, what targets they set, and demonstrate improvements during the life time of the council.
