The county council has ordered a land owner at Mepal to remove 20,000 tonnes of waste illegally dumped on a field.

A brief outline of the case has been prepared for next Thursday’s meeting of the planning committee.

In a report to councillors officers say an enforcement notice was issued on March 19 requiring the waste – on land next to Mepal airfield- to be removed by April 22.

It is described as “inert waste and aggregate” and officials say further action will follow unless the land owner lodges an appeal.

“If the notice is not appealed the landowner will have six months from the effective date to remove the waste and aggregate,” says the report.

The land owner will then be required to “restore the land to its former condition prior to the breach of planning control i.e. a state fit for the former agricultural use.”
