FENLAND Council has again triumphed at a major awards ceremony, this time winning recognition for its emphasis on training.
Ickworth House, near Bury St Edmunds, was the scene for the East of England final of the Learndirect Achievement Awards, which celebrate the region’s people and businesses that have boosted theirs or others’ skills.
Cheers, tears and whistles filled the air as eight winners and a host of highly-commended runners-up were summoned to the stage to receive their awards from Look East presenter Janine Machin.
Among the winners was Fenland District Council, which scooped the Large Company Award.
The audience heard that the council was putting more than half of its 700 staff through Learndirect courses, and had identified a number of staff to act as assessors.
Sam Anthony, head of human resources and organisational development, said: “We are absolutely delighted. This award recognises the investment that we think is important in our staff.
“It helps build our talent pool and helps them to move on. It also really builds people’s confidence.”
Among those highly commended was Aaron Locks, CCTV manager at Fenland District Council
