THE phrase 'diamonds are forever' certainly applies to March couple Jack and May Angier, who have just celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.

The couple, of Richmond Avenue, met through their parents and, after Jack, now 84, returned from serving in the Second World War with the RAF in 1946 and was invited to tea at May's family home in Chatteris.

They married a year later, at St Peter and St Paul's Church, in Chatteris, and have three children, Kay, and twins Susan and John. They also have seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

May, 80, said: "Jack played football for Ely City after returning home from the war but, when the twins were born, he gave it up."

He worked on the railways until he retired at 58. The couple also ran the newsagent's shop in Wisbech Road, March, near the junction with Norwood Road, until 1985.

The couple marked their anniversary with a family celebration at daughter Kay's home in Westwood Avenue, March. A few days later they completed their celebrations by taking friends to lunch at March Conservative Club.
