A FAMILY feud came to a head at the weekend, when James Aldridge threw a lump of concrete through Glen Darling's car windscreen, and assaulted Lee Darling by head-butting him.

Aldridge had flown into a temper after discovering someone had smashed a window of his March home, near his baby's cot, and someone had urinated through his letter box.

"His wife was extremely upset and his children were screaming and tearful," Fenland magistrates were told by solicitor Anita Waterman on Wednesday.

"He completely lost his temper and put the concrete through the BMW window. He then sat and waited for the police to arrive."

Prosecutor Craig McDougall said Aldridge's sister Charlotte was the former girlfriend of Lee Darling. Their relationship had ended and resulted in a family feud.

On Saturday evening, Aldridge and Lee Darling had argued, Aldridge head-butted Mr Darling and punched him, and he fell over a wall.

In the early hours of Sunday three people went to Aldridge's home in Norwood Road, March, and a window was smashed. An hour later, police were called to Creek Road at March, where James Aldridge had thrown concrete at Glen Darling's car.

Aldridge, 25, admitted assault and criminal damage.

"This is not a young man who generally goes around assaulting people and causing damage," said Mrs Waterman. "He is married with children and lives a law-abiding lifestyle."

Aldridge's sister had "considerable difficulties" after splitting up with Lee Darling, she said, and told her brother she had been followed and physically assaulted.

Aldridge had head-butted Lee Darling, but denied punching him. They had shaken hands after the incident.

He was given an 18-month conditional discharge, told to pay £100 compensation to both Glen and Lee Darling, and pay £55 costs.
