BAD parking, especially outside schools, and night time yobbish behaviour in the town centre are to become priorities for March Police.

"We have made it clear that illegal parking in the town will not be tolerated and that if our warnings are ignored action will be taken," said Sergeant Alan Boughen.

"The team has issued 91 fixed penalty notices for parking offences in the town and given 57 verbal warnings, following regular patrols in the town centre and school areas."

The decisions on priorities follow a public meeting called by the March and district neighbour policing team and attended by about 25 members of the public.

Sgt Boughen, who leads the team, said: "Panel meetings are about giving the public a chance to have an active involvement in the policing of their neighbourhoods.

"It has now been decided that the team will look at road related issues associated with schools, such as parking, youth related anti-social behaviour in the town centre and night-time economy related anti-social behaviour in the town centre."

He said the public had decided that anti-social behaviour in March town centre, speeding and parking should be tackled.

Police have recently issued five Acceptable Behaviour Contracts to youths and one parental control order.

"High visibility patrols are being conducted in hotspot areas and a number of joint operations have been held with Trading Standards and Fenland Licensing to tackle youth and alcohol related crime," said Sgt Boughen.

In the past three months the team has also carried out a number of speed checks, issuing ten fixed penalty notices.

- The March and district neighbourhood team also covers Wimblington and Doddington.
