Year Five children at a March school celebrated the Hindu festival of light at the end of their half-term.
The day at the Westwood Junior School took place during the Diwali festival and linked in with religious studies for the children, which have been based around the Hindu faith.
There were a number of activities throughout the day, giving the youngsters hands-on experience of life within a different culture. They learned traditional Hindu dances, with one including the use of Diva lamps which are associated with welcoming the Hindu goddess of wealth and good fortune.
The pupils also made their own Hindu masks, designed their own Henna tattoos, made their own Rangoli patterns and sampled food traditionally eaten during this time.
The day was rounded off with the year group performing the dances they had been taught during the day, showing off the crafts they had produced and talking about the food they had tried.
