CAMBRIDGESHIRE has fewer frontline officers than two years ago, statistics have revealed.

The five per cent fall in officer numbers means there are 62 fewer frontline police officers in the county than 2010.

There has also been a reduction in the number of visible police officers by 53, leaving 763 in the county.

Ed Murphy, Labour’s Police and Crime Commissioner candidate for Cambridgeshire, said he “won’t stand by and let the Tories and Liberal Democrats become cheerleaders for the police cuts in Cambridgeshire”.

“I will stand up to protect this community and fight crime,” Mr Murphy said.
