Police across Fenland are going back to the future by getting on their bikes to patrol local villages.

Officers in Whittlesey, March, Chatteris and Wisbech have been carrying out cycle patrols as part of showing a stronger bobby on the beat presence.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: “We always enjoy talking to members of the public who stop us to say hello, so if you see any of us out and about, don’t be shy.”

Officers on cycles went to overnight reports of youth anti-social behaviour in the area of Snowley Park.

A spokesman said: “High visibility patrols will continue, this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.”

They added: “We were out in the area of Whittlesey, Eastrea and Coates on cycle patrol. Many people engaged with us whilst cycling through Whittlesey town centre.”

Officers also went out on bikes at night time pro actively patrolling to prevent burglaries.

“Whilst on our cycles we heard a commotion at Station Road Industrial Estate. Upon arrival we found three drivers mistakenly thinking they were on a race track.

“Warnings were issued and requested to leave the town.”

Across the Fens community police officers are patrolling local parks and other hot spot areas for youth anti social behaviour and to chat with young people.

Neighbourhood officers continue to patrol the Wimblington and Doddington area in response to suspicious activity reported in the villages
