A competitor in the Circuit of the Fens who was injured when he rode into a stationary vintage steam roller remains in a “critical but stable” condition in hospital.
The man, in his 40s, was competing in the support race when the incident happened at Pondersbridge near Whittlesey on Sunday. The race was held up for an hour.
The injured cyclist is in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and colleagues from the NFTO Pro Cycling in Hereford have thanked the emergency services for their prompt response.
“The boss, Race Club and NFTO Pro Cycling, would like to thank the fast and professional response from the Cambridgeshire Police and East Anglia Air Ambulance, without which he would not have survived,” said a message posted on the NFTO Facebook page.
“Thank you for all your kind words and messages for our injured rider who is still in a critical but stable condition.
“These will all be passed onto the family concerned, it means so very much that our sport has a community that has such kind words for a person they may never know or meet. No further updates are planned. Thank you all again.”
The message added: “Everyone in the club wishes him well.”
