A community-minded cadet from Whittlesey who went as far as having her head shaved for charity has picked up a prestigious award.
Darcie Tegerdine, 13, of the Whittlesey Detachment, was presented with The Jim Carter Award, which is given to the best army cadet in Cambridgeshire.
Cadets are nominated by Detachment Commanders for their contribution, commitment, citizenship and training progression throughout the year.
Last October, The Sir Harry Smith College pupil had her head shaved in aid of The Little Princess Trust. Her efforts raised more than £2,500.
Her parents, James and Eve Tegerdine, said “We are very proud of Darcie receiving this award. The Army Cadets is a great organisation for Youngsters to be involved in and she is really enjoying it.”
Darcie is looking forward to a 11 day Annual Camp in Folkestone in August and hopefully in the long term a career in Her Majesty’s Forces.
The award is named after Jim Carter, who was a long standing member of the Whittlesey Branch of the Cambridgeshire Old Comrades Association. He served in the 2nd Battalion, Cambridgeshire Regiment and was captured at Singapore in the Second World War.
