Crowds gathered in March as a handful of young daredevils pitted their handmade soap box racers against each other at the town’s first derby during the March Summer Festival.
Eight teams entered and navigated the derby’s figure-of-eight course on Sunday with winners crowned in senior and junior categories.
The Squire Boyz team of Dyland and Toby triumphed in the junior race, with Team Holly of Holly and Colin Andrews as runners-up, and the Wheel Nutters team of Ben and Dawn Stephens won in the senior challenge.
The March Fire Brigade’s C21P3 came in second and Jacob Knightly’s Star Wars themed racer won best presented soap box.
Trevor Stockbridge, of the March Lions, said: “The object of the weekend was to encourage the people of March to get involved in the gala weekend and it certainly did that with crowds of people clapping and cheering on all the entrants and having a good time.”
