A grieving daughter is angry that a council is threatening to take her to court if she doesn’t pay £2,000 to the care home which she claims neglected her late father.

Lorraine Wedge’s father Ronald Milner died aged 81 of septicaemia in April 2012 from a bedsore he picked up at Amberley Hall, King’s Lynn.

Last November Mrs Wedge, of Friday Bridge, received an out of court settlement due to a lack of care shown to her father, but Norfolk County Council expects her to pay £2,152 for the three months he spent there and have threatened her with court and bailiffs if she doesn’t pay up.

Mrs Wedge said: “My father died of a bedsore which gave him septicaemia. This was caused by his lack of care at Amberley Hall.

“I was that concerned about him I would visit the care home twice a day to check he was all right.

“The care home accepted he wasn’t looked after properly. This was established when I successfully sued them.

“Since then I have had numerous calls and letters from Norfolk County Council wanting me to pay £2,152 for his care.

“They reckon his lack of care was nothing to do with them and I’ve been told if I don’t pay up I will be taken to court and threatened with bailiffs.

“My father died through lack of care and I sued them so why would I then give them money for his care when they didn’t give him the care he needed?”

Harold Bodmer, director of Community Services at Norfolk County Council, said: “I’m sorry to hear of the loss of Mrs Wedge’s father, and the distress this must have caused her.

“This is about more than payment; it’s about ensuring the care people receive is as good as we expect it to be.

“We need to review the concerns Mrs Wedge has about the care her father received and discuss the case with her, which we will do, before deciding how we should proceed.”

A spokesman for Amberley Hall said: “We can not comment on any on-going dispute between Mrs Wedge and Norfolk County Council.

“We are liaising with the Community Services Team regarding the concerns raised about Mr Milner’s care.”
