Dave Baigent, a former Fire Fighter and lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge, has been announced as the Labour Party’s candidate for the Cambridgeshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

Following a ballot of Constituency Labour Parties, Dave Baigent was selected with a clear majority of them voting to back him at the election on May 5.

Mr Baigent said: “I am delighted to receive the support of Labour Party members in Cambridgeshire and I look forward to campaigning with them to deliver a Police and Crime Commissioner who will stand up to this Tory government over the reckless cuts to police in our county.

“Violent crime in Cambridgeshire has risen by 25 per cent in a year, whilst the number of police officers has been cut by more than 100 since 2010. The choice at the election will be between a Labour commissioner who will stand up to the government’s cuts to policing, or a Tory commissioner who will back them all the way.

“If elected, I will work day and night to make our streets safer and protect our communities from the very worst government cuts.”
