Former British welterweight boxing champion Dave “Boy” Green made a guest appearance at a charity stall in March market square.
The local Macmillan Cancer Support fund raising committee officially launched Walk for Macmillan 2014 with the help of Mr Green.
A charity spokesman said: “Our thanks to the generous people of March who not only took registration forms for the walk but bought £157 of raffle tickets and donated a further £43.81 to help those affected by cancer.”
Dave “Boy” Green will be the official starter of this year’s 5km walk, which takes place on Sunday September 7, starting at 11am at the Band Stand in West End Park.
