A FENLAND motor dealer has come to the rescue of motorists faced with losing thousands of pounds after the sudden closure of a Kings Lynn dealership.

People who paid the cash to a motor dealer before it ceased trading have been now told they will get the cars they paid for.

Wisbech St Mary based J S Holmes will help sort out many of the problems after an intervention by Nissan UK.

King's Lynn-based Swan Street Motors is under investigation by trading standards, and customers calling to collect vehicles they had paid for were told they could not take them away.

Swan Street director Richard Greenacre said all business had been suspended because talks were in progress with a potential buyer.

Notices in the windows of its showroom say the company had ceased trading "with immediate effect".

Nissan UK, one of the two franchises run by the business, said: "The dealer agreement with Swan Street has been terminated. They are no longer a Nissan dealer.

"We are now in the process of recovering our stock from the premises."

A spokesman said customers were being referred to J S Holmes, which would ensure all transactions were completed. "Everybody who's paid money will get the car they've paid for," she added.

Mary Waters paid Swan Street £12,000 for a second-hand Nissan X-trail. She was due to collect it a week ago, but was told she could not drive it away because the company was in talks with possible buyers.

Hearing she would be getting her car Mrs Waters, from Boston, said: "I am just so relieved."

Frank Bullock, from King's Lynn, also heard that he would receive the truck he had paid a £13,000 deposit and took out a £10,000 finance arrangement on.

Renault UK has also said it will honour any deposits paid for new Renault cars.
