Just under 200 people had their hearts checked at the first Defibrillators for All screening event in Whittlesey over the weekend.
The charity, which is aiming to raise £10,000, also added another £407.81 to their fundraising total over the two days from donations and refreshments.
Deborah Slator, of the charity, said: “Thank you to everyone who helped raise money for our heart screening.
“Special thanks to Denise Ireson, and Elaine Story for all their support with the admin work and helping out with refreshemnts, also Sue Page and Alan Sharkey for fetching and carrying, the team from CRY and all the cake makers.
“We should all feel a sense of accomplishment. Don’t panic but that is our first screening session over.
“Back to the drawing board now to work out how we can raise money for the next time.
“I thought we might be providing a service to one or two people but lots can sleep better knowing their hearts are ticking well.
“A few didn’t get the result they wanted but better to be referred to a cardiologist than have no idea that there is a problem.”
On Friday June 2, 12 people were given referrals and 96 were screened.
That number increased on Saturday, June 3, with 13 referrals and 101 total screenings.
The figures came from Cardiac Risk in the Young screening co-ordinator Joanna Mills.
One person said on social media: “Thank you for my appointment. You do such an amazing job for this town, already saved so many lives!”
Another said: “Well done, you have excelled again.”
Deborah, who organised the screening, added: “There is still lots of work to do before our town of Whittlesey has received all that it deserves, but with the support and dedication of the whole town we will continue to make progress.
“We hope that other groups will look at us and think that if we can do this then so can they!”
• The British Heart Foundation and Resuscitation UK say that in cardiac arrest access to CPR and a defibrillator within 3-5 minutes can quadruple chances of survival.
