A speech and language therapist has been recognised for her outstanding service.

Elspeth Novice, who is based at Doddington Hospital, was awarded the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust’s Shine a Light award.

Mrs Novice, who has worked as a speech and language therapist for 30 years, was nominated by Kay Rogers, adult speech and language therapy manager.

She said: “I was shocked to find out I had been nominated for this award and even more surprised to find out I had won. I really appreciate my manager Kay’s support and her nomination.

“Despite the challenges I still love my job, especially the time spent with my patients.

“I’m also lucky to have fantastic colleagues, which makes such a difference during difficult times.

“I really believe that we have a vital role in patients function, well-being and quality of life, and making a positive difference to peoples lives is a reward in itself.”

The Shine a Light scheme allows members of the public to nominate staff who have made a real difference to their lives and Trust staff to nominate their colleagues.

Mrs Rogers said: “During a challenging time for the team Elspeth has continued to offer a highly professional service and has been extremely flexible and willing to provide cover and support in order to maintain patient care, often at short notice.

“She remains enthusiastic and willing to share her knowledge and expertise with less experienced colleagues and the wider team in general.

“Elspeth has been instrumental in setting up the March Aphasia Support Group (MASH) and has recently, in her own time, organised a quiz night, where she and her husband were the quiz masters, raising much needed funds required for the continuation of the group.”
