Delamore pay for fence to protect floral tributes on graves in Emanuel Church in Parson Drove from hungry rabbits

Floral tributes to loved ones in the graveyard of Emanuel Church, in Parson Drove, were increasingly falling victim to marauding rabbits.

So Delamore Young Plants, of Wisbech St Mary, stepped in and agreed to fund rabbit proof fences.

Canon Matthew Bradbury said: “For the last three months the parishioners of Parson Drove have been suffering the consequences of a plague of rabbits which have been eating the flowers on the graves in the churchyard.

“No sooner have expensive floral tributes been placed upon the graves of loved-ones, the flowers have been eaten by the marauding rabbits.

“Over the last few weeks, with the warmer days and shorter nights, the problem has become worse, so the Parochial Church Council, as part of their major work to refurbish the church and improve and enlarge the graveyard, has decided to erect a rabbit-proof fence along the northern and eastern boundary of the graveyard.

“Of course, this all costs money, and in the middle of a major re-ordering, money is in short supply for the church, so we approached Delamore Young Plants, which owns the adjoining land, to see if they would help.

“To our delight, managing director Wayne Eady agreed at once to fund the project.”
