FENLAND-based Giles Landscapes has been awarded the prestigious Local Government News Street Design Award as part of the creative team that created Gunpowder Park in Enfield.
The Welney based design and landscape company was commissioned back in 1999 to undertake the soft landscaping for this ambitious and unique project.
Giles Landscapes worked alongside architects, designers and the Landscape and Arts Network to create this unique and fascinating park that has an equally fascinating past. Gunpowder Park was originally a Ministry of Defence ordinance munitions testing facility but now is a thriving contemporary natural space combining science and nature with art.
The aim was to bring this dead space back to life, by making the soil safe and creating a conservation park for wildlife while merging it with a usable space for art.
Roger Giles, founder of Giles Landscapes, said: "It's great to see that the public are behind these kind of spaces where wildlife is protected and encouraged.
