HAVING only just obtained a copy of your June 1 issue, I feel I must reply to Peter Downs' letter about the Bramley Line headlined 'Finances are the sole delay'.
Some of the financial problems lay with the lethargy of the residents of March, the more so the ex-railwaymen, especially of the footplate grades.
There must be a number of ex-March drivers, who obtained their position during the lifetime of the March-to-Wisbech and beyond line.
Jogging a few memories firing and driving steam trains, being 'passed out' from cleaner to fireman, passed fireman, ultimately driver. I was one of those employed at March.

Therefore, I fully support every attempt to restore services on this railway. If we, the veterans of this line, were to financially show an interest in its revival I'm sure it would attract the same interest from big business, constitutions and banks.
So come on Men of March, dig deep into your pockets and help this phoenix rising from the ashes and see the fruits of your labours, running up and down between March and Wisbech again.

MAY I please give an opinion on your report of comments made by Councillor Alan Melton on the Bramley Line.
He stated that "the council could not promise big grants". Surely, he is not even considering giving any grants to an organisation which has not done its homework on the project.
The map on Page 9 of last week's issue shows a railway line, March to Wisbech East. As Network Rail does not own the track beyond the junction with the Metal Box, has the Bramley Line consulted Purina with a view to using its property, or are there plans to build a platform at Weasenham Lane?
If these 'train spotters' want to play trains why not buy a Hornby.
