Mike Chapman was with the council for 19 years where he worked as the markets and events manager until a restructuring meant he lost his job in June.

He has now set up Markets and Events Ltd with the aim of creating events with a difference.

Mr Chapman said: “There won’t be sock stalls here. I want to book sellers who have unusual and quality goods.

“It is going strong, I’ve done more than 1,000 miles travelling about getting it up and running. There are a number of new events over the next year.”

The first event will be a new Heritage Fair in Wisbech on Sunday September 14 from 10-4.

Following that will be a crafts, food and curiosities market in Ely town centre on Sunday September 28.

He is also looking forwards to a Christmas fayre in Whittlesey on November 30 and in August 2015 is helping to organise a music festival in Ely.

“They just can’t keep a good man down!” he said.

Stallholders at the Wisbech event include a wide range of hand crafted goods, an international cheese vendor, a paella stall plus the finest shellfish on offer from Silver Fins of Norfolk.

There will also be a static display provided by Norfolk Owls showing the birds in an open air and hands on tableau.

Children will have rides and a bouncy castle.

Mr Chapman said: “I am still looking for stallholders offering new and unusual goods for special events. For details check out the website www.easyevents4u.co.uk.”

He is also interested in helping organisations create and deliver quality events in the region.
