A Doddington man has marked his recovery from a brain tumour by writing a fantasy novel.

John Feary penned his first book – The Bridge Between – whilst recovering from having a pituitary tumour removed in 1991.

The 55-year-old began writing the fantasy tale 26 years ago, but returned to finish it last year after he was made homeless and was living in a caravan in the Scottish highlands.

“I read the Lord of the Rings when I was a kid so I have sort of done my own version,” he said.

“I lived next to the River Tay in Killin and I could see all these characters running around in my mind’s eye.

“It took just over three months to finish once and I’m over the moon with it.”

The Bridge Between tells the story of Jay and his journey through a land of gods and monsters.
