DODDINGTON’S 64th annual horticultural show was a great success with overall entries and visitor numbers up on last year.

While entries at the village hall in the adult section rose from 507 to 590 organisers were disappointed that entries were down in the children’s section although the standard remained very high.

The show is open to local schools and it is hoped that more youngsters will participate next year.

Show secretary Lyne Green said: “Last year we had a bumper number of entries in the vegetable section and with the weather conditions we have been enduring in the past few weeks we were not expecting as many as last year. However, our local amateur gardeners did not let us down and entries were up from 132 last year to 158. We also expected the weather to affect the flower entries but fortunately it was not the case.”

Judging the fruit and vegetable section was John Overvorde of Delfland Nurseries, Doddington, and also presented the prizes.
