Anglian Water say that sewers in Lake Close are privately owned and no work has been carried out by them, despite claims from housing association Clarion.

The road in March has been left with raised drain lids, potholes and kerbs sticking out - three years after residents moved in.

However, Clarion say they have “agreed a solution” with Anglian Water which will see the road completed “as soon as it is practicably possible”.

When work is complete it would mean that the road could then be adopted by Cambridgeshire County Council.

A Clarion spokesperson said: “We have been working hard to resolve this issue however, regrettably, there have been delays which have been out of our control.

“We absolutely appreciate the inconvenience local residents have experienced because of this.

“Fortunately, we have now agreed a solution with Anglian Water which will see road surface works able to complete. We will work with all parties involved to ensure this happens as soon as is practicably possible.”

However, when contacted by the Cambs Times last week, Anglian Water insisted that no work had been carried out by them so far.

“The sewers in this road are not managed or owned by Anglian Water and any work carried out has been carried out by the developer and their contractors,” they said.

Sixty houses were built on Lake Close over the course of three years in 2016, but the road is yet to be adopted by Cambridgeshire County Council due to drainage work.

It means that the road has been left with gaping holes, manhole covers that stick inches out of the ground and uneven kerbs.
