A Chatteris teenager’s dreams came true when music legend Bruce Springsteen invited her onstage during a concert at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Lizzie Pardon, 19, went to see her idol perform for the third time and was picked from a crowd of thousands to perform with him last night.

“I still can’t believe it,” she said, having previously seen ‘The Boss’ in Coventry in 2013 on his Wrecking Ball tour and then in Manchester last month during his The River tour.

“My dad has always been a Bruce fan and I always enjoyed listening to his music in the car as a kid.

“But then I really started listening, enjoying and understanding the lyrics.

“His live shows are like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” she added, before heading to see him in Coventry tomorrow and evening and at Wembley on Sunday.

“Every band member is crucial to building the most amazing sound and Bruce always looks genuinely excited and happy to be there.”

But how did she end up onstage with the music icon?

“I was lucky enough to hold Bruce’s hand during Thunder Road at Manchester. And again within three minutes of last night’s show during Waiting on a Sunny Day I think he recognised me from before.

“I had a sign that caught his eye as I saw him reading it. During Dancing in the Dark he then came back and said ‘come on up’.

“I just couldn’t believe it. He meant me. Before the show my dad had said to me ‘if you get on stage ask Bruce to shake my hand’ which I laughed off but promised I’d do.”

Minutes later Lizzie, who works as a control operator at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service taking calls and dispatching crews, found herself onstage with her idol.

“A few fans helped me get up over the barrier. I then realised we were going up to the main part of the stage and I couldn’t believe what was happening.

“The guitarist passed me a guitar and Bruce helped me get it on and passed me a pick. I copied what he did and then joined in with the ‘yeahs’ with him and Jake.

“I looked back at the crowd and just saw thousands of people looking back at me. It was so hard to take it all in and truly believe that it was happening.

“I’m still so blown away - afterwards people were coming up to me in the street asking about it.

“It was such a strange feeling but the best night ever!”
