A CHARGE of speeding has been admitted by 51-year-old Wimblington man Paul Swannell, but he refutes a police statement that claims he reached 92mph in his BMW along the A141 at Wimblington.
Because of the discrepancy, Fenland magistrates will hold a Newton hearing at a later date, to hear evidence and decided on which facts to sentence.
On Wednesday, prosecutor Craig McDougall said a police officer recorded Swannell's speed at between 75 and 92mph over two-tenths of a mile.
"He accepts he did exceed the 60mph speed limit, but does not accept he went over 75mph," said solicitor Anita Waterman.
A date for the hearing will be set by the court on February 7.
