DAVID Rose panicked and fled after colliding with a car along the Sixteen Foot Bank near Chatteris, leaving a trail of debris.

Police examined the remnants of the accident and then went to Rose's home, where he admitted being involved in the crash.

"He drove out of Byall Fen Drove on the wrong side of the road and collided with another vehicle driving along the Sixteen Foot Bank towards Wisbech," Fenland magistrates were told by prosecutor Francesca Devine. "Both vehicles were damaged. Both drivers were breathalysed, but the results were negative."

Rose, 36, formerly of Harold Heading Close, Chatteris, but currently living at Tick Fen, admitted careless driving and failing to stop after the accident on August 25 last year.

"He does not think he was completely on the wrong side of the road," said solicitor Anita Waterman. "The other vehicle was over the line, but he accepts he was not fully on the right side of the road. He panicked and drove off, but when he got home he phoned the police."

Rose, who already had nine points endorsed on his licence, was banned from driving for six months and fined a total of £500 with £42 costs.
