Driver stopped in March by police had false number plates - he was also arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs

A man caught driving a Ford Mondeo on false plates last night was also arrested on drug offences.


Police revealed they pursued the car on the A47 at Guyhirn before finally stopping it at Westry on the outskirts of March.

A police spokesman described it as “pro-active work leading to arrest”.

He said force’s Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) team along with police officers from Fenland were involved in the incident.

“The ANPR team along with Fenland officers stopped a vehicle last night that was being driven on false plates,” said the spokesman,


“The incident started on the A47 near to Guyhirn and concluded at Westry, March.

“One male from the Peterborough area has been arrested on suspicion of drug and driving offences.”

The spokesman added that cable was also found in the boot of the vehicle and this, too, was being investigated.

“Inquiries are ongoing into this incident,” said the spokesman.


Police said the incident happened at around 10.30pm last night.

The spokesman said: “When searching the vehicle officers discovered what they believed to be drugs.

“A 36-year-old man from Peterborough was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class a drug and is currently in custody in Kings Lynn”
