With ages ranging from the youngest at four years old to a beginner at 63, Matt Seymour has developed a drumming hub in the heart of the Fens.

Mr Seymour, 41, took up the drums at the age of eight and until he was 17 was self taught by jamming to music he liked and watching concert videos.

He then took up lessons with an inpsiring teacher and blossomed into playing a range of music genres including heavy metal and playing with the Cambridge Concert Orchestra.

“As a performer I have played in over 20 bands and supported the likes of Chris Slade of ACDC and shared the bill with The Black Star Riders and hosted drum shows with Craig Blundell a top UK session drummer and Lloyd Ryan a jazz drummer and former TV drummer.

“I also ran a series of drumming workshops based in Georges pub in town on a Sunday evening. I have taught in schools across the county from Duxford to Peterborough and taught dozens of students one to one.

“I am developing a diploma level course which I think may be unique amongst private drum teachers. Currently, I have a 59 year gap between my eldest and youngest student.”

He studied under Paul Francis who was a touring and recording musician and played with Steve Harley, Guilbert O’sullivan, Maggie Bell, Geno Washington and many others.

Matt said: “He was a great inspiration to me and opened me up to discover all musical styles and what was possible. He also was the main architect in persuading me to become a teacher.”
