DRUNKEN dad Leslie Smith had been out celebrating his son's first birthday before he assaulted his wife during a row, and damaged property at their March home.Smith rolled home drunk around 5am on Saturday, and after a few hours sleep he argued with his wife Rebecca, making one of his young sons cry, and the other was frightened.Smith told his wife: "When I get you on your own you will be scared." He pulled her hair and hit a wall with a piece of woodMrs Smith had said she was unsure if she still loved her husband. He kept repeating: "Stop saying it's over," said prosecutor Claire Hancock, and his wife heard him smash things up.At Fenland Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, 30-year-old Smith, a recovering heroin addict, admitted assault and causing criminal damage to a door and interior plasterwork.Solicitor Amy Brown said drinking alcohol led to Smith having emotional outbursts, and he did not usually go out drinking all night."He does not remember much about what happened that morning because of the alcohol he had consumed," she added. "He deeply loves his wife and was upset." He had paid his landlord for the damage.Sentencing was adjourned until February 14, and under the terms of his bail he was ordered not to contact his wife except through a solicitor, not to go to Creek Road, March, and to live at The Old Post Office, High Road, Guyhirn.
