A POLICE inquiry officer was alone in March police station when he carried out a citizen's arrest on a drunk who bit him on the nipple.

When intoxicated Simon Wood turned up at the public counter he asked Pete Wright to kiss him -- and he wrenched a piece of wood from a door frame.

As he waved the wood around, Mr Wright tried to restrain him, and during a struggle he bit the officer on the nipple, making it bleed.

Appearing at Wisbech courthouse on Tuesday, 35-year-old Wood admitted assaulting inquiry officer Pete Wright, and causing criminal damage to a door frame..

Wood had punched the police station counter when he arrived at 8.45pm on January 28, said prosecutor John Nooijen. Mr Wright saw him on a monitor, and saw him walking around the foyer. He went to ask what he wanted, and Wood had a vacant gaze on his face as he twice asked for a kiss.

Alone in the station and without a radio, Mr Wright went to the secure entrance door and again asked what Wood wanted. He managed to restrain Wood, who had waved part of the broken door frame at him. Wood was still waving the wood as he started to fight, and Mr Wright carried out the civilian arrest.

After subduing him, Mr Wright managed to drag Wood into a secure area, said Mr Nooijen, and two police officers arrived back at the station.

Mitigating, Ruth Johnson said Wood, of Eastwood, Docking, could not offer any explanation for his behaviour, because he had been drunk.

"The inquiry officer is entitled to work without suffering violence against him," she said.

Sentencing was adjourned until March 20 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
