DRUNKEN Ron Yeomans swore at police in Chatteris town centre as he stood alongside a group of youths.

Officers were leaving the police station when they spotted 38-year-old Yeomans unsteady on his feat and acting loudly.

He was warned about his behaviour but continued to be abusive, prosecutor John Nooijen told Fenland magistrates on Tuesday.

Yeomans, who lives at the Green Welly Motel in Chatteris, admitted being drunk and disorderly in East Park Street, Chatteris, on November 3.

He told magistrates that he lived on benefits, and spent "quite a bit" on drink.

"I have to, because it helps," he explained. "I drink every day if I can. I am not well."

The court fined him £70 with £60 costs.
