‘Eclectic’ homes plans submitted for former highways depot in March

A design statement submitted with the application by Mr and Mrs Smith Ltd promises the scheme has been designed to ensure there is no direct overlooking of neighbouring properties and the distances between boundaries is larger than usual.

Homes will include one bedroom apartments, one bedroom cottages, two bedroom cottages, and three and four bedroom houses all with allocated parking spaces and garages.

The proposed layout matches the shape of the application site, which is close to the railway station and measures around 1.1 hectares.

Twenty-five per cent of the homes will be for social housing, either for rent or shared ownership depending on viability.

The design statement prepared by the Clarke Smith Partnership, points out the site is currently neglected and has former depot storage and office buildings which have been vandalised over the years.

A pond located to the west of the site will be retained and used as a public wildlife amenity.

The statement concludes: “We are of the opinion the scheme as presented creates a healthy, safe and equitable living environment for prospective owners of the houses.”
