Members of the March Lions Club donated more than £300 to a March-based charity that supports people with learning difficulties in Cambridgeshire.

The Lions donated £360 from their Christmas lights fund to buy cooking equipment such as an oven, a bread maker and cake making equipment.

The group, along with their family and friends, got together at Eddie’s in March yesterday (August 20) to thank the Lions and put on a show for guests.

Trevor Stockbridge, Lions president, said: “Each year Lions do the Father Christmas sleigh. Basically all the money we raise is from the people of March.

“What we’re doing is putting it back into March. The total money was split between Eddie’s and Fen Tigers, a local football team for the blind.”

“What we’ve bought with the money is for the people here at Eddie’s, it gives them skills to use this sort of equipment without getting injured.

Using their new equipment, service users made cakes and bread for a buffet. Teas, coffees and other drinks were also being served.

Kerry Russ, one of the service users who performed a story show to guests, said: “I read The Mousehole Cat and during that I explored different mediums in arts.

Mosaics made at the centre were then auctioned off to friends and family to raise some money for Eddie’s. One was bought for £11, two at £13 and one at £14.

A hand-made patchwork blanket was then sold to the highest bidder for £25.

To finish off the event Ian Parker and Anna Hankin, both service users, performed a duet of their favourite Grease songs from Grease Lightning to Summer Nights.
