RUBBER DUCKS fitted the bill for fun at Whittlesey when crowds turned out for the mayor’s annual charity race.
With no evidence of fowl play, all entrants had a quacking good time as scores of bathtime ducks were released into the town’s river for the event.
Competitors swiftly sailed into their pecking order as a winner emerged in the shape of duck 131 belonging to Ben Coxell.
Second was duck 526 owned by Zachary Roan while duck 486 owned by Denny Barnes winged it into third place.
Mayor Kay Mayor thanked everyone for their support in what she said was a hugely successful event which raised £710 for her chosen charities.
“We had a fantastic time at the Briggate River,” she said.
“The crowds turned out despite there being a cold wind - at least we didn’t get wet like last year.”
Mrs Mayor thanked volunteers from Cambs Fire and Rescue at Whittlesey for their help and St John Ambulance for the duck loan.
She also thanked Whittlesey Street Pride Group for tipping the ducks in the river and Peter and Martin Wright, Carl Baker and Andrew Roddham for clearing the area at the end of the event keeping the town clean.
